Kayaking at Blundell's
Blundell’s offers pupils an exciting opportunity to develop new skills, challenge themselves and enjoy the outdoors.
The programme caters for a wide range of abilities, from complete beginners taking to the water for the first time to experienced paddlers looking to develop their technical skills.
Training takes place in a variety of environments, including:
- The swimming pool
- Tiverton’s Great Western Canal
- Local rivers such as the Exe and Barle
Beginners develop water confidence, boat control and essential techniques, before progressing onto the canal and, as their skills develop, the excitement and challenge of white-water kayaking. With rapids ranging from Grades 2 to 3, pupils have the opportunity to experience the adventure of paddling moving water in a supportive and encouraging environment.
For those looking to take their kayaking further, the programme also offers opportunities to compete in both sprint and marathon racing. With regular training on the Great Western Canal and opportunities to represent the school at regional and national events, pupils develop their:
- Technique
- Fitness
- Endurance in K1 and K2 racing boats
Above all, kayaking at Blundell’s is about participation, personal development and a shared enthusiasm for the sport. It encourages pupils to develop confidence, resilience and perseverance, while learning to support one another, overcome challenges and celebrate individual and team achievements. Whether discovering kayaking for the first time or pursuing competitive ambitions, pupils are encouraged to get involved, embrace new challenges and enjoy everything the sport has to offer.
