Ed Recognised Among UK’s Top Young Physicists at The Royal Society
Blundell’s is proud to celebrate the achievements of Sixth Form pupil Ed, who was recently honoured at the prestigious British Physics Olympiad Awards held at The Royal Society in London on Friday 2nd May.
Ed’s remarkable success in both the British Physics Olympiad and the British Astronomy & Astrophysics Olympiad earlier this year led to an invitation to the final selection camps for the UK International teams, hosted at the University of Oxford over the Easter holidays. These highly competitive camps bring together the country’s top-performing young scientists to determine who will represent the UK in the International Olympiads.
In recognition of his outstanding performance, Ed was invited to attend the national awards ceremony, where he received a prize from Dr Doug Shaw, Deputy Head of Research at G-Research, the principal sponsors of the Olympiad competitions. The event brought together pupils, teachers, academics, and industry leaders to celebrate excellence in Physics education.
Alongside the prize-giving, attendees were treated to a fascinating lecture from Professor Sonia Contera of the University of Oxford, who spoke about the groundbreaking ways nanotechnology is reshaping the study of Biology through Physics. The event also included a review of the UK’s strong results in last year’s International Olympiads.
Ed’s accomplishments reflect not only his dedication and intellectual talent but also the strength of science teaching at Blundell’s. He continues to inspire those around him with his passion for discovery and his pursuit of academic excellence.
