Blundell’s Launches 1604 Gin and Beer
The Blundell’s Foundation has launched two bespoke, limited-edition drinks – the 1604 Gin and 1604 IPA.
Taking its name from the year the school was founded, the 1604 range honours more than four centuries of history while raising a glass to the future. Each bottle sold helps the Foundation fund bursary places at Blundell’s for talented pupils who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.
The 1604 IPA was developed in partnership with St Austell Brewery and created through a hands-on collaboration with Old Blundellians and the school’s rugby community. St Austell’s Head Brewer, Georgina Young, hosted a special tasting session with a group of OBs at the Mill on the Exe in Exeter.
Once a style and flavour were agreed upon, James Sessions Hodge (Head of OB Rugby), Peter Price (W 1958–63, Former First XV Captain), and Director of Foundation, Tom Cowle, headed to the brewery to take part in the final brewing process.
The 1604 Gin is handcrafted in Devon by Gotland Gin and is uniquely infused with botanicals grown in the gardens of Blundell’s School – including rose and elderflower. The result is a refined Devon dry gin with crisp juniper notes and a delicate floral finish – perfect for those who value both flavour and purpose.
