Return to School Update

It is good to be back! Being back in lessons was our number one objective and it is great to be teaching children again, face to face. There are still many regulations and restrictions that we need to adhere to and there will be things that we will adjust in the days and weeks ahead.

On the whole, we are very pleased with how things are going, and pupils have been so good about following the one-way systems and cooperating with what we are asking of them. The ‘light touch’ use of face masks seems to be working well and it does not appear to be too much of an issue for anyone. Some pupils are choosing to keep their masks on all the time, but the majority have adapted to quickly putting them on when they are entering into a crowded place.

The ‘bubbling’ of specific year/house groups has also worked as well as we could have hoped, so there is much that we are pleased with. I have included some pictures below to give you an insight of the practical measures that we have implemented to keep things rolling.

Lastly, to celebrate the start of the new year please do take a moment to watch a video of the school which was created last year - its a wonderful showcase of what Blundell's has to offer our pupils.

A Farewell Tribute to Blundell’s

Tilda Huntingford (GH 2013-20) spent her last 2 weeks while at school painting this incredible piece of art as a farewell to the School & a thank you for everything her tutor has done for her. It is the view from Mr Berrow’s window.

Hardship Fund- Thank you

We would like to take a moment to thank the many members of the Blundell’s Community who responded to our call to action to support our pupils and families hit hardest by the economic impact COVID-19 has had on our School Community.
A full update on the hardship fund will be made available to the Blundell’s Community shortly. If you would like to support the fund today, you can do so via the link below.

A-Level Results 2020

"In what has been a particularly challenging time for all school leavers, we are very pleased to report that 93% of our pupils have secured places at the university of their choice.

The disruptions to the exam programme caused by the COVID-19 outbreak has required pupils’ results to be produced based on grades submitted by the school and verified by a moderation process by Ofqual through the exam boards. We are confident that this process has, given the circumstances, ensured a positive set of results that will allow our pupils to pursue their ambitions through universities, apprenticeships or other means and we are delighted that despite the disruptions they can now make plans to continue on the next phase of their lives."

GCSE Results 2020

"After the tumultuous past fortnight, we are pleased that our pupils have been rewarded with their Centre Assessed Grades. In what has been the most challenging of circumstances, it has become evident that replacing exam results with a computer-generated grade is highly unsatisfactory.

It reminds us emphatically that education is so much more than just the grade on a certificate. Pupils, parents and teachers devote time, effort and energy to the educational process and that is not adequately reflected by any algorithm. Regardless of the sector, this is the case for all young people, and we are pleased that this generation of pupils can take pride in the grades that their teachers have rewarded them with."

Virtual School Events-
Remembrance Service

Many of you enjoyed ‘attending’ the end of year Speech Day event online back in July(see left).

We realise there are many that would like to ‘attend’ more of these events and we plan to stream more events this year. The first event will be Remembrance Sunday. More details will follow.

Career Podcast - Thank You Mentors

Thank you to all the Old Blundellians who took part in the Blundell’s Careers Podcast during our home learning programme. The interviews are being well-used by the Careers Department. The project is continuing, and we have a great cross-section of professions which will be covered over the coming weeks and months.

If you would be prepared to speak about your industry, please contact Mr Dudgeon on bpd@blundells.org. You may also be interested in being a mentor to our students, in which case email the Development Office.
