Blundell's Community Stronger Together

There is a lot happening at Blundell’s School despite the current circumstances worldwide. We have been very proud of the work happening behind the scenes to support our Community, including the recent introduction of food boxes to the local community with a free delivery service to those in isolation (more information below).

Our Design and Technology Department have also been hard at work, producing Personal Protective Equipment with our 3D printer for the local NHS. Design & Technology teacher, Mr Frappart has been making visors for the NHS and delivered them to Clare House Surgery.

Additionally, 4 boxes of goggles & several boxes of gloves were donated to Hospiscare Centres across Devon. The equipment was kindly donated from our Biology, Chemistry & Physics departments and will be used by the nurses in the their day-to-day care roles. Our Biology department have donated all their disposable gloves & aprons to the Tiverton GP Practice, Castle Place Practice.

The Development Office and Old Blundellian Club are continuing to reach out by phoning those members of our community who we feel would appreciate a call during the lockdown. It has been fantastic to speak to so many of you and to hear your stories of when you were at Blundell’s.

We are delighted with the many members of staff, pupils and members of the OB Committee who have volunteered to also make calls. It has been a wonderful example of the Blundell's Community coming together during this time.

Dear Food Box customers,
We hope that you are all well.

We are continuing to serve our community by providing food boxes of meat, fresh produce and groceries for order at cost price. These are available every Friday for collection at Blundell's School. We also have volunteers ready to delivery to those in isolation to our surrounding areas.

Because of the scarcity of baking ingredients in shops, we have included a Baking Box and a Bread Making (limited supply) this week. We have also updated some of the items in ‘Fresh’ box with seasonal produce e.g. asparagus and strawberries.

All box contents can be checked in the final stages before booking using the click to order button below.

We hope that you have enjoyed receiving these boxes and thank you for your support of this initiative. Through your generous donations and any small surplus made on the boxes, we have raised £718 for CHAT so far. We know that they will make this money go a long way to serve our community and it is greatly appreciated.

With best wishes The food box team

Careers Podcast

Benjie Dudgeon, who is a teacher in the EAL department, is looking for Old Blundellians who are happy to talk about their work as part of a new podcast for the school community.

Each week Benjie is interviewing OB's from a diverse range of sectors to give current students insights into different worlds of work. Interviews are recorded remotely and take around twenty minutes.

We'd love to hear some more of your careers stories. Benjie is especially keen to interview OB's in the following sectors: Engineering, Pharmacy, Biomedicine, International Relations and Politics.

To get involved, please email Benjie on: bpd@blundells.org

Hockey Tour to Holland

The girls’ hockey team are still hoping to go on a pre-season tour in Holland late Summer.

The team is attempting to collaboratively run from Blundell’s to Rotterdam (and back!) to raise funds for a tour kit and selected NHS charities.

They have set up a JustGiving page below if you would like to learn more:

Corporate Sponsorship

We have two Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities available to our Community:

~One-Day Equestrian Event, Sept 2020
~Hockey Tour to Hollands, Summer 2020

If you run your own business, you may find this method a particularly attractive and cost-effective way of supporting Blundell’s. When a company gives to a charity, the value of the gift can be offset against the company’s highest rate of Corporation Tax.

NHS Blundellians

I’m sure that many of you will be joining the rest of the country every Thursday by stepping outside your door to clap to show your support to those who are on the front line in our battle against the coronavirus.

If you work for the NHS or are a key support worker or know a Blundellian who is, please do let us know so they can feature in our #clapforheroes section in the Popham Post so we can show our appreciation to them.

Please get in touch by emailing devoffice@blundells.org
