Excellence in Sport
Blundell’s has a proud tradition of present and former pupils playing at the highest level of sporting competition.
The sporting programme is valued by both pupils and staff. Talented pupils aspire to play at the highest level and Blundell’s sporting culture allows pupils to train and to be committed to reach their full potential. Pupils are fully supported by their coaches, House Staff and peers. We don’t hot-house our pupils but provide them with the opportunity for excellent coaching and time to develop their own skills and fitness, monitored by caring coaches. We fixture against the best in the South West. All our recent internationals have represented Blundell’s in many different sports throughout their time at school. We believe that this is important not only for their development as an elite sportsperson but also for the culture of sporting excellence in the school. Where specialisation maybe required in a sport we work with the individual to make sure that pupil has the time and support required to make progress and to achieve their goal of playing at an elite level.
We have numerous Blundell’s boys who are part of the Exeter Chiefs Rugby Academy programme, others who are involved with Bristol Bears Rugby Academy, and a number representing Devon County at various age groups. We have girls and boys who are fully involved in the ISCA hockey programme and England Hockey player development pathway programme. Every year pupils compete at the English Schools athletics meet, swimmers who train with local clubs have been selected for representative honours, top netballers are selected for The Team Bath Netball Academy and our kayakers have been propelled into training with the very best in their sport.
