The Blundell's Journey
A Blundell’s education stretches across all stages of your child’s life. Our youngest pupils join us as toddlers, and leave as fully-rounded, confident and capable young adults.
Whether your child is 2½ or 18, they will receive the same outstanding education, built around our core values, and a dynamic and innovative curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. We recognise, too, that a child’s needs change considerably as they grow, and their journey through Blundell’s is tailored to adapt to these shifting demands.
Pupils can begin that journey at the age of 2 ½ in our wonderful Nursery, surrounded by highly qualified teachers who know the importance of creating a caring and stimulating learning environment. The children benefit from access to all of the facilities within our spacious Pre-Prep building as well as extensive use of our grounds including the ‘Wild Wonders’ outdoor classroom. As children move in to our Reception classes they start to follow an innovative curriculum with a focus on literacy and numeracy but with time for creativity and adventure. As the progress into Years 1 and 2, they develop skills and knowledge within a framework of exceptional pastoral care, preparing them for the move in to the Prep School.
It is in Year 3, at the age of 7, that pupils begin their four years in the Prep School. Whilst the majority of their days are spent within a well-balanced form group, the children start to move to specialist classes for a number of subjects including Music, Drama and Food Technology. As they join Year 4, children are taught by specialists for all subjects whilst still enjoying the benefits of a close-knit form group. As pupils begin Year 6, thoughts turn to the next stage in their education but not before they have enjoyed all of the benefits and exciting opportunities that a final year at Prep School should include.
Pupils join the senior school at the age of eleven, in Year 7, and spend their first two years in School House, our bespoke house for our youngest senior school pupils. School House is very much a ‘school within a school’, offering pupils access to our outstanding facilities and teaching, while retaining the nurturing and supportive environment of a house specifically designed for 11 to 13-year olds.
In Year 9, at the age of thirteen, our pupils move into one of our five senior boarding houses: two girls houses and three boys houses. All pupils are allocated to a boarding house, whether day pupil or boarder, and it is here that they will spend many happy hours with friends and house staff, building bonds, and learning social and emotional skills, that will last them a lifetime.
In their final year at Blundell’s, all pupils move to Westlake, our purpose-built Year 13 co-educational boarding house. Life in Westlake is the perfect preparation for moving on from Blundell’s. As well as having a focused and purposeful environment in which to concentrate on their studies, our Year 13 pupils are given a greater degree of independence, as well as specific training and guidance for life after school.
We are determined that all pupils leave Blundell’s fully prepared for whatever path they have chosen, and our clear journey through the School is key in helping us achieve this.
