Welcome to the 131st Russell Saturday 12th March 2011
This event, named after the famous Blundellian and West Country parson, Jack Russell was created back in 1879. This will be the 131st year that the event has been held (although the figure is open to debate according to some). It is with much gratitude to our local farming community and neighbours that this year’s event can go ahead again. Particular thanks go to Mr & Mrs J Hull, Dr & Mrs H Breitmeyer, Mr & Mrs Punchard, Mrs Evans, Mr and Mrs S G Dibble, Mr P Brind (Great Western Canal Trust), Mr and Mrs M Frankpitt, Mr and Mrs W McManus and all of the local residents en route.
| Cumulative House Points Competition | ||||
| BOYS | GIRLS | |||
| Old House | 5920 points | Gorton House | 3394 points | |
| Francis House | 5410 points | North Close | 3375 points | |
| Petergate | 4501 points | |||
The results from the Cumulative Points Competition that has been running throughout the term are listed below. It has been a closely-fought competition where runners of all abilities give everything in pursuit of the House Prize. This is the only competition in the School whereby every single member of the House contributes, and where every effort is rewarded. Westlake compete for their old Houses.
Individual successes over the training runs and in today’s races are easy to single out based on the results, but in addition there are team cups for both the junior and senior age groups, and for both the boys and girls. There is also the Berry-Barker-Balance-Cup for Endeavour; this is awarded to the runner who has made the most spirited effort and improvements in their fitness.
Hot drinks and food are available throughout the afternoon, where money raised will help fund the upcoming Blundell’s Cricket Tour and Exeter Leukaemia Fund.
Finally, many thanks to the staff and officials who have to endure the weather conditions to ensure the safety of all runners -without them this event would not be possible.

The Berry Barker Balance cup for endeavour, this year is awarded to a pupil for her significant improvements in personal fitness over the last three years. She has been training hard in her spare time and also worked hard in all sorts of ways to improve her fitness and athleticism. With the gains in her fitness came a new found enjoyment of running and cross-country that have seen her results and times drop dramatically, and an enjoyment of running that at one point in her life was not looking likely. I have been delighted to see the effort and enthusiasm invested and the obvious gains made. For these reasons the Berry-Barker-Balance Cup for endeavour is awarded to Ellie Hedley-Dent from Gorton House.
