Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass | ![]() |
| The Year 6 play this year was based upon Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, written by Lewis Carroll. It all began last Term with auditions and culminated in two performances in the Ondaatje Theatre at the senior school. After much hard work in the production of the play from Mrs Jeffs and with excellent costumes and props organised by Mrs Rhodes, the performances were of a very high standard. | ||

Blundell’s Fete | ![]() |
| Recently the school spent the afternoon at Blundell’s Fete. It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone who went. Pupil’s ran several stalls at the fete, including a sweet stall, a tombola stall, and a stall selling things that the children had made themselves, including bracelets, candles and six-legged spiders. Other attractions at the fete included a bouncy castle, ferret racing, teddy bear parachuting, name the teddy bear, hook the duck, candle making, ice-creams, guess the weight of the bull, and a cake stall. There was also a pony display called ‘Jive Pony’, the stocks and a balloon race competition to see which balloon could travel the furthest. Money raised at the fete went towards the funds for Children’s Hospice South West and Shariputhra School in Sri Lanka. All had a great time, and the pupils were particularly pleased to escape lessons for the afternoon! | ||

| Kelly Activity Centre | ||
![]() Year 6 recently spent a week at the Kelly
Activity Centre that is situated in Tavistock on the western side
of Dartmoor. It is a self-contained activity site providing outdoor
education and adventure.The Activity Centre Instructors are very well trained and passionate about the outdoors. They encourage the children to participate in a variety of activities, learning how to work together as a team using communication and problem solving, stretching themselves both mentally and physically while taking care to manage achievement appropriate to that person. All the children, and staff, thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and activities set, learnt a lot about themselves and being away from home! ![]() |

Summer Concert | ![]() |
| The annual Summer Concert was held in the marquee with the traditional picnic interval. Lots of different acts played, including the school choir, the wind band, clarinet group, recorder club, string group and lots of different singers; every child in the prep school was involved in at least one item. Mr. Swain compered the evening and brought some laughs with his silly jokes, and the orchestra began the concert with ‘Oom Pah Pah’. A surprise item came with the teachers singing ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, which was very entertaining and funny when the men sang on their own. The school choir then finished off the evening with ‘Waves’ and ‘Pirates’. Everyone had a great time, and all our thanks go to Mrs. Bruce for organising such a fun event. | ||
| Tudor Day | ||
![]() This term Years’ 5 and 6 held a Tudor
Day and pupils came to school dressed up in Tudor costume. Henry VIII
came to visit and began the day by talking about Henry’s life
and how he came to the throne. He then split the pupils into three
groups to try different activities, including Tudor games, a Tudor
quiz, and a Tudor version of ‘Where’s Wally?’ in
which you had to spot as many different Tudor games as possible being
played in a gigantic painting.After lunch the pupils met in the Hall to learn about how the stocks were used in Tudor times to punish people for the bad things they had done. Dulcie, Sam, Jonty, Ella and Mr. Hirst all went in the stocks! There was then the opportunity of having a go at jousting: there were four teams, two girl teams and two boy teams, and instead of real horses, hobby horses were used to try to get hoops on to poles. At the end of the mini tournament the overall winners were the girls! Everyone had a great time dressing up and learning about Henry VIII, and at the end of the day nobody wanted him to go. Thank you to Henry VIII for coming and to Mrs. Jeffs and Mrs. Bruce for organising the day. ![]() |

Overnight Camps | ![]() |
| This term pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 have experienced overnight camps in the beautiful grounds at school. This has involved helping to erect tents, playing team building games and, for Year 5, building a fire. Food was cooked in the school kitchens and included spaghetti bolognaise, bread and hot chocolate of course. We had camp games and stories and most had some sleep in the tents! The weather was very kind and thanks must go to Mr Swain and the other staff who helped with the camps. | ||
