ICT

The use of ICT in society expands at an ever-increasing pace and it is an essential part of everyday life for the staff and pupils alike at Blundell’s Prep. We offer a curriculum that matches the needs of society today and pupils will have unprecedented access to facilities.

At Blundell’s Prep these include a PC suite, interactive whiteboards and laptops – approaching 50 around the school. Pupils also have access to cameras, scanners and other peripherals such as floor turtles.

The aims of the Blundell’s Prep ICT department are:-

• To use the National Curriculum for Key stages 1 and 2 as a guide to teaching ICT in Years 1 to 6.
• To stimulate the use of Information Technology in all subjects taught at Blundell’s Prep.
• To enable and encourage every pupil to develop relevant IT skills and an understanding of the impact of ICT on society.
• To foster the enjoyment and confidence in using and applying Information and Communication Technology.

The skills learnt in ICT are applied across the curriculum, such as in this geography lesson.

Aims of the ICT dept.

• Developing understanding and confidence in using information & communications technology through appropriately differentiated practical tasks, enquiry and experiment.
• Ensuring that all children have access to, and experience of, appropriate hardware and software to enable them to achieve the highest level of competence and understanding.
• Creating an awareness of the relevance of information and communications technology to the whole curriculum.

Pupils will be encouraged to develop their typing skills using a Typing Tutor software package.  All pupils are also members of SuperClubs, where they learn to develop their own Web pages and learn to communicate sensibly with others.  There are 50 laptops within the school, interactive Whiteboards in every teaching room, as well as superbly equipped ICT Suite. This enables children to access ICT across the whole curriculum at will, as well as enjoying their own dedicated ICT lessons within the curriculum.
