Design Technology

The children enjoy formalised Design Technology every week with a specialist teacher in a new, purpose-built Design Technology room. Pupils plan and design their own projects in a variety of mediums. They create things such as hovercraft, solar powered cars, egg cups, toast racks, their own clocks and CD holders, to name but a few.

Aims of the DT dept.

To develop an understanding of design principles and techniques before putting them into practise.
To understand the need for accurate measurement using practical activities.
To increase manipulative skills and problem solving abilities
To learn to understand the principles behind structures, friction, levers and different materials.

Course Content

Within a specialised, dedicated workshop the children enjoy a wide variety of design and realisation projects including solar powered cars, personalised clocks, modelling, toast and DVD racks, hot plate racks and egg cups.
