University of Cambridge Examinations: English for Speakers of Other Languages
Cambridge University provide a range of exams for students of all levels. The exams that are most useful to Blundell’s School pupils are the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE). These are roughly equivalent to AS and A Level respectively. Students who do not achieve high marks in GCSE English may wish to take the First Certificate in English (FCE).
Most
British universities recognise these qualifications, and they are often
very useful for students wishing to continue into higher education. The
Cambridge exams are known and respected around the world as a measure
of proficiency in English, testing reading, writing listening and speaking
for general purposes.
In the TESOL Department there is a qualified teacher available with specialised material to prepare students thoroughly for every aspect of these exams. Blundell’s students usually find the level of the exams challenging but manageable and, with support and additional lessons, pupils are expected to achieve high marks.
The enrolment process is simple and the exam can be taken nearby. The TESOL teacher, who provides advice, support and encouragement, usually accompanies Blundell’s School pupils.
