Blundell's continues its history of outdoor pursuits with a continually expanding range of activities. There are several members of staff whose enthusiasm and experience enables pupils of all abilities to experience and learn from outdoor challenges.
Climbing
Hill Walking
(Including Ten Tors, and mountaineering trips - e.g. to the Himalayas)
Kayaking
(including the Devizes to Westminster race)
Mountain Biking
Hill Walking
With the proximity of Dartmoor, many pupils get to sample the joys of this bleak area of Britain. Regular trips go on throughout the year, catering for pupils from Year 9 upwards. The highlight of the year is the Ten Tors challenge walk held in May of each year.

For information about the event, please see the separate Ten Tors Webpage.
Climbing
The school is very lucky to have its own climbing wall that has been constructed in the old gymnasium. It caters for beginners right through to experienced climbers with challenges available at all levels. Weekly sessions go on throughout the year, supervised by experienced climbers (Photo Gallery). The pupils are encouraged to improve their skills to help them when they climb on 'real' rock.
Mountaineering
These expeditions are distinct from CCF activities and run every two years. They are demanding both physically and mentally, and built into the expeditions are a range of community project work, trekking and cultural adventure - a unique mix that ensures it is a most exhilarating and rewarding team-building experience. The trips are available to Year 11 upwards, and parties range from 10 to 20 in size. Not surprisingly, team members return changed people with global perspectives, increased self-esteem and independence as well as something to make them stand out in a pile of UCAS or job interview forms.

Mountain Biking
With the number of people owning mountain bikes on the increase, cycling
off-road is becoming a regular occurrence. The
hills around Tiverton offer many rides suitable for all ages. Nearby country
estates allow us access to their private tracks to allow safe and traffic-free
riding. Several of the older pupils compete regularly with a good level
of success.
A supervised activity runs on a weekly basis throughout the year. Some pupils may wish it to stop in mid-winter. The rides vary from fun to physically exhausting but usually end with a good percentage of smiling faces. On a few occasions each term trips further away are organised to allow pupils to sample more demanding rides on the moorland areas of the South West.
