Ways of Giving
Funding can be provided in many ways, through an annual gift, a specified one off donation to be invested and provide provision in perpetuity, sales of stocks and shares, legacies and many gifts also attract substantial tax saving benefits.
Don’t think that a small amount does not make a difference, If you are able to afford just £2, £5, £20 or more a month, it really will enable a boy or girl to receive the most worthy gift for their whole life – a Blundell’s education to give them the chance of a lifetime.
Small and large gifts are welcome, whatever you feel is comfortable giving level for you, all donations are most gratefully received and extremely welcome. The opportunity to give is very flexible with either a single donation or a monthly contribution made over full or part of a year through a monthly standing order. If you are a UK tax payer all donations can be made tax efficiently and attract Gift Aid which increases the overall value of any gift you maybe by 25%, and if you are a higher rate tax payer, the cost is further reduced.
Donations can be made towards any project and one that is of most interest to you. A full list of projects is available and current projects are listed on the Projects page. You can if you wish, opt for the Development Office to allocate your donation according to where the need is greatest; however you decide, you can be assured that your wishes will be complied with.
| Donors | Amount | Frequency | Duration | Donations | Benefit to a Project |

Gift Aid
Higher Rate Tax Gift Aid UK taxpayers only
Under the Gift Aid system, Blundell’s can reclaim the basic rate of tax (currently 20%) which UK taxpayers have already paid on the money they donate. This equates to a net gain of 25% on the value of the gift.
If a donor is a higher rate taxpayer, they too can benefit from tax relief as they can claim back the difference between the higher rate of tax at 40% or 50% and the basic rate of tax at 20% on the total value of the donation - a total of 20% and/or 30%. So if £1 was donated, the gross donation would be £1.25, so a donor liable at the 40% tax rate could claim 25 pence back (20% of £1.25).
The donor must pay at least as much UK tax (Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax) as the amount of Income Tax that you're reclaiming. If a donor makes a number of Gift Aid donations, they must pay a sufficient amount of UK tax on the total amount of those donations and they may be required to pay any shortfall in tax paid to HMRC. This can be shown in the following table: -
| Gift Aid | ||||
| You Donate | Blundell’s Reclaims Basic Tax of |
Total Value of Gift to Blundell’s |
You Reclaim Tax (if higher-rate payer) |
Net Cost to You |
| £50 | £12.50 | £62.50 | £12.50 | £37.50 |
| £100 | £25.00 | £125.00 | £25.00 | £75.00 |
| £250 | £62.50 | £312.50 | £62.50 | £187.50 |
| £750 | £187.50 | £937.50 | £187.50 | £562.50 |
| £2,000 | £500.00 | £2,500.00 | £500.00 | £1,500.00 |
However, if you wish to maximise your gift to Blundell’s you can nominate the Blundell’s Foundation to receive any tax repayment you may be entitled to when you submit your annual return to HM Revenue and Customs using the following unique reference code:
Blundell’s School Foundation
You can also request that any repayment is made as a Gift Aid donation. All this would increase for example a donation of £3,000 to £4,800, proof indeed that it all makes a difference.
