Rosslyn Park U18 National Sevens - Semi-finalists

The Senior Sevens squad led by the indefatigable Lewys Ryan, who played every minute of every game, had a fantastic run in the country's major Sevens tournament this year. They won their pool comfortably without really being troubled unduly, defeating on the way Forest, St Ivo, Claremont Fan Court and Reading Bluecoat. At the end of the first day the squad had to play the extra match this year, this time against Richard Hale and again played some excellent sevens to come through 46-5.

U18 Rosslyn Park Sevens 2006
Pool Forest 45-0
Pool St Ivo 43-14
Pool Claremont Fan Court 59-0
Pool Reading Bluecoat 43-5
Qualifier Richard Hale 46-5
Last 16 Dulwich College 19-5
Quarter-finals Oratory School 19-15
Semi-finals Sutton Valence 7-29

The second day always sees the raising of the ante but Dulwich College were unable to halt our progress. Dulwich had just come off an impressive victory over a promising Clifton College side but a solid and organised performance saw us into the last eight by 19-5. The team started strongly and then played tremendous sevens to keep the ball for four minutes to seal the game. The quarter-finals saw possibly the boys best session this year when they took on a large and highly regarded Oratory School side, who had caused a shock by overturning Wellington College in the previous round. A lightning start again saw an early lead and then some spirited cover defence work saw them hang on to win 19-15. In the semi-final against Sutton Valence the opposition's extra pace and power in the backs proved too much of a handful and they went down 7-29. Overall the boys were a credit to themselves and to their coach, Mr Ridgway, and they surpassed everyone's hopes. Congratulations to the whole squad.

U18 Sevens Squad: Lewys Ryan (Capt'), Mark Lloyd, Rob Lennox, Alec Murray, Sean Mardell, James Lock, Tom Frankpitt, Joe Murrell, Tom Banbury, Tom Seward, Jack Hunt and James Righton.
