2005/6 Girls' Hockey
Captain of Girls' Hockey: Charlotte Vantreen NC/W
Congratulations to both the U18 squad and the U15s, who won their respective Sherborne Tournaments. The U18s dominated their pool defeating Queen's Taunton and Sherborne Girls comfortably - they then accounted for Wellington in the semi-final before beating Sherborne again in the final. The U15s did not concede a single goal throughout the day in normal play and won their semi-final against Wellington on penalty flicks. In the final they also defeated Sherborne Girls 1-0.
Devon County U18 Outdoor Champions. The U18s comfortably repeated last year's victory in the Devon County Schools Outdoor Championship Finals. They defeated Torquay Girls' Grammar 3-0, Ivybridge 3-0, Exeter School 2-0 and West Buckland 2-0 to go through to the West of England Finals after half-term.
Devon County U18 Indoor Champions as well. The U18 squad continued their all-conquering season by easing into the West of England Finals at Exeter University. They beat Exmouth Hockey Club, who included three Internationals in their team, by 6-0. Theresa Wengeler led the way with 4 goals and there was one each from Captain, Lottie Miles and Maddy Raynor. Sidmouth Community College were easily overcome 7-0 with two goals each from Theresa, Lottie, Hannah Bazley and one from Maddy. The crunch game was against last year's National Finalists, Exeter School. Despite going a goal down the team fought back to take a convincing 3-1 lead with Theresa scoring all three. The score finished an exciting 3-2 win.
Devon County U16 Indoor Champions. The U16 girls' hockey squad, not to be outdone by the seniors also won their Devon Finals in fine style. They overcame Sidmouth CC 4-0, Exmouth Hockey Club 3-1, Exeter School 3-1 and ISCA Hockey Club 4-0 to go through to the West of England Finals at Cheltenham on Sunday 15th January 2006. Grace Gabbitass led the way with 8 goals, ably supported by Louise Youngman with 4 and Captain, Jo Mardell and Becky Blackmore added one apiece.
U16s qualify for the National Indoor Finals: The U16 squad finished as runners-up to Millfield in the West of England Finals and so they have qualified for the National Finals at Worcester in February. On the way through they defeated Parkstone Grammar 10-1, Clifton Hockey Club 2-0 and Taunton school 7-3. They then overcame Cheltenham Ladies College 7-3 in the semi-final before losing to Millfield 1-4 in the final. Once again, Grace Gabbitass was leading scorer with 13 goals, with Becky Blackmore and Jo Mardell each claiming 5, Louise Youngman scoring 3 and there was also 1 for Hattie Hosegood.
U18s make the West of England Indoor Semi-finals: The U18s lost 1-0 in an exciting game to Clifton Hockey Club in the semi-finals. On their way through they defeated Parkstone Grammar 7-0 and Cheltenham Ladies College 5-1 but lost to Millfield 1-3. Hannah Basley and Lottie Miles both scored four apiece, Julia Muller-Eising and Tory Pouncey netted two each and Maddy Raynor scored the other. The girls played some fantastic hockey and were, as always, terrific ambassadors for Blundell's.
