Religious Studies Gifted & Talented

The nature of the subject promotes additional enquiry and intellectual challenge for the gifted and talented. The philosophical material studied in Year 9 and above encourages independent thought which is taken far beyond the bounds of the syllabus in the abler groups.

The Sixth Form Ethics course stimulates self-questioning and debate and this is encouraged through visiting speakers, seminars and visits to hear university lecturers at conferences in the area. A seminar style of teaching enables students to engage with complex material at their own levels and opportunities exist for them to pursue their interests outside the classroom.

Questions on the nature of Free Will and Determinism, for example, cause pupils to examine the nature of their being as well as many of their fundamental assumptions. This often leads to lively debate! As a result, a number of pupils have gone on to read Philosophy at university.
