Business and Communication Systems (BCS) GCSE

In a break from tradition Blundell's has opted to change from ICT to Business and Communication Systems at GCSE. This offers the ideal route for students to fully explore the usefulness of IT systems that are currently available today and to study how they impact all aspects of our lives, especially in business.

Students will learn to solve problems using software tools, through the completion of tasks set by the examination board.

Throughout the two years students will be taught new ways in which to use computers in a variety of scenarios as well as learning to follow system briefs carefully to meet the needs of end users.  Although the course is very much a practical course, detailed knowledge of all aspects of ICT in Business will be required for top marks.

An ICT lesson in the Popham CentreIt is highly recommended that students who undertake this course have their own computer and access to the Internet during the evening and weekends.  Being able to research solutions to problems that students encounter in the production of their controlled assessment will be essential.

The practical element will require the use of the following software:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheet
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Database management
  • Presentation
  • Image processing

Blundell’s currently uses Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise edition and Adobe Creative Suite CS3
