Design and Technology Facilities

The Design and Technology department is contained in a purpose built building and is divided into the following areas:
Exhibition space
The department has two exhibition spaces where GCSE and A-level coursework are displayed throughout the year. Both foyer to the department and the new space in the Popham centre are well worth a visit.


The Classroom
The classroom is an ideal area for the teaching of theory using the most up to date resources and an interactive whiteboard. The classroom also provides a perfect area for designing with large desks and a bank of computers equipped with CAD software.

CAD/CAM area
Another bank of computers is used to control the latest CAM machines; a 3D router and a CAMM1 for cutting packaging nets and stickers.

Main Workshop
The main workshops is equipped with a variety of machines including plastics equipment, metal and wood lathes, a forge, a milling machine, pillar drills, fret saws, a full range of hand tools and a specific sanding area. All machines meet health and safety guidelines are checked on a weekly basis.



Garage
The garage currently houses the departments Triumph Spitfire which is undergoing major restoration.

Large Project Area
During the Spring term this area is fully utilised to accommodate the larger projects that are being made for both GCSE and A-level coursework.
Welding Area
The welding area contains MIG, TIG and ARC welders and also a plasma cutter.

Spray Booth
The spray booth is used extensively for both composites work and for the spraying of both models and finished pieces of coursework.
